Serena Williams, a singularly influential voice across sport and fashion, is taking a new approach to her latest collections: Williams will collaborate with Nike to form a team of emergent New York City designers, who will create a range of Serena-inspired footwear and apparel throughout 2020. Starting October 18, a group of NYC-based designers from schools, institutions and collectives, such as Harlem's Fashion Row, will be invited to Nike's NYC Headquarters for a day of workshopping. There they will complete a series of design prompts organized by Nike design teams. Serena Williams will step onto the grass courts of London wearing a stunning white dress complete with sweater-knit textures. Just as prominent is an added element on the garment: A sewn Swoosh brooch made with Swarovski ® crystals. Nicknamed "the Broosh," the accessory was inspired by decorative jewelry from past generations. "I also wanted her to feel like it was something her grandmother could have worn, but of course give it a modern spin and make it just right for Serena," says Abby Swancutt, Global Design Director for NikeCourt. The Swoosh is made up of 34 crystals — the age at which Serena won her most recent London Slam in 2016. It marks the first Swarovski ® crystal Swoosh made with Nike.
